How to load fishing spots on a Lowrance fish finder

Checked

Fish Scouter works with Lowrance units via an SD card. Your saved spots go out as one standard GPX waypoint file, with short plain names, the kind of spot and its depth.

From your phone

  1. In Fish Scouter open You → Spots → My spots and tap Send to my fish finder. Choose Lowrance.
  2. Save the file from the share sheet, then copy it to the display's memory card (steps below).
  3. You can also pick the Lowrance app in the share sheet and import the GPX. It may move the spots to your display when you're on board — if they don't appear, use the card.

With a memory card

  1. Copy the .gpx file to the root of an SD or microSD card.
  2. On the display open Files (or Storage) → Memory card, pick the file and choose Import.
  3. Older Elite and Hook units use Waypoints → Load from card instead.

What we've confirmed

  • The Lowrance app's App Store listing says it imports and exports GPX waypoints.

Check your unit's manual

  • Whether waypoints imported into the app from a GPX file then sync to the display isn't confirmed, and one owner reported imports that never appeared. If they don't, use the SD card.
  • Which Lowrance app tier includes GPX import isn't clear from Lowrance's site.
  • Units from before about 2017 may want Lowrance's .USR format, converted on a computer with Insight Planner.
  • The exact menu names differ between models — check your unit's manual.

Questions anglers ask

Can I put Fish Scouter spots on my Lowrance?

Yes. Fish Scouter writes a standard GPX 1.1 waypoint file, which works with Lowrance units via an SD card.

Will my spot names fit?

Fish Scouter cuts names to 15 characters in plain letters and numbers, and numbers any that match ("Bull Bay Reef 2"). That's a safe length, not a limit Lowrance publishes, so your unit may take longer names.

Does the depth come across?

Each spot's depth is written in its description, because not every unit reads depth from a GPX file.

Which plans include it?

Sending spots to your fish finder comes with the Captain and Guide plans. Your spots stay private either way.
